Tramp Art, like quilting, relies on using salvaged materials to create textures and patterns then piecing them together to make beautiful yet utilitarian
objects. While relatively unknown, Tramp Art was a wide-spread form of Folk Art that flourished in America between the 1870's – 1940's.

Spring has arrived just in time for Summer.....Happy Flag Day!

Well, the garden is growing.
We have a wonderful old Pear tree, Cherries, Figs
and a Grapevine along with the flowers.

I have been busy creating as well!
So I wanted to take a moment to share some of the pieces
I have been working on this Spring.

There is a Trio of Snowmen and a NEW Raven
that will be available to order soon
in the Open Editions section of my website. I am also
working on a Four Drawer Chest/Thread Chest,
two sizes of my Tall Clock/Pocket Watch Holder and
a NEW Heart Hand-Held Mirror.

I wanted to post some images
showing the progress of these pieces...

~Snowman Trio~

The Tramp Art Snowmen come in three sizes.
Their hats are made from vintage thread spools, pressed board
and available antique elements such as feather tree springs,
buttons and assorted millinery items.

The top each base will be dusted with some
vintage mica "snow" and some German glass glitter.
The final touch will be to dress each in a scarf
to keep away the cold. The scarves will vary and
will be made from vintage Christmas Tree Tinsel/garland
or strips of antique fabrics.

~The NEW Raven~

This Raven stands with it's head looking upward
and his wings spread. He stands approximately 7.5" tall,
12" long and has a wing span of 17".

The last images shows him holding
an unfinished German style Christmas Lantern.
I am also making an Easter Lantern.
Both lanterns will have inserts placed in the windows.

The lanterns and a NEW Raven will be going off
to an artist friend of mine since her favorite holidays
are Easter and Christmas.

I really like these little lanterns so I make make some more...
maybe at a slightly larger size so that I can
add some layers of Tramp Art to them. They would be
wonderful ornaments for a tree. I do plan on making a larger
Halloween Lantern to go with the large Raven.

~The Four Drawer Chest/Thread Chest~

This is a work in progress as I am still going to
add Tramp Art layers to the top, sides and drawer fronts.
The drawers will have vintage knobs and
once pulled out the lids of the vintage cigar boxes
will have a pull tab made from silk ribbon
and attached to the inside of the cigar box lid with a
vintage Dresden Star

~The Tall Clock/Pocket Watch Holder~

I am going to be finishing these with
my custom mixed stain. The inside of the bonnet
and the back will be painted. I may even
do a grain painted finish on this pieces one of these days.

I am currently searching for a source for
good working or non-working pocket watches to
include with each clock case ~BUT~
if you have an old pocket watch that you want to display
you can use this Tall Clock to hold that
cherished time piece.

~The NEW Heart Hand-Held Mirror~

I have always loved the small courting mirror.
I plan on continuing to make a series of
small/courting mirrors and this is the newest piece
in that series. I have already made a
Single Heart, a Double Heart and a Love Birds Courting Mirror.

The photos show the front and back sides of
this Heart hand-Held Mirror
which can also be hung on the wall with a loop
of leather that will be tied through the hole
in the handle OR you can simply hang it on a nail
using the hole as the hanger.

Vintage pocket/purse mirrors are used in all
of my courting mirrors.
