Tramp Art, like quilting, relies on using salvaged materials to create textures and patterns then piecing them together to make beautiful yet utilitarian
objects. While relatively unknown, Tramp Art was a wide-spread form of Folk Art that flourished in America between the 1870's – 1940's.

Things are gearing up here in Trampland a.k.a. my studio.
I am waiting to get more materials so I can
finish up a handful of pieces I have started. Then I plan
to start making the 40 to 50 new pieces I have
designed in the last few weeks.

Look for some exciting things to come...
a series of Tramp Art birds based on the illustrations
on some antique Frakturs. Other pieces include
a Pipebox/Keyholder, a Spoon Rack, a Wall Sconce,
a Lantern, a Starfish Box, more sewing boxes
a group of Limited Edition Christmas Ornaments and
some other surprises!

I want to take a moment to thank you for your
interest in my Tramp Art. I would greatly appreciate your help
to continue my growth and success!

My Tramp Art pieces are one-of-a-kind works of art and I would
love for more people to experience my creations!

Spring has arrived just in time for Summer.....Happy Flag Day!

Well, the garden is growing.
We have a wonderful old Pear tree, Cherries, Figs
and a Grapevine along with the flowers.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have been busy creating as well!
So I wanted to take a moment to share some of the pieces
I have been working on this Spring.
There is a Trio of Snowmen and a NEW Raven
that will be available to order soon
in the Open Editions section of my website. I am also
working on a Four Drawer Chest/Thread Chest,
two sizes of my Tall Clock/Pocket Watch Holder and
a NEW Heart Hand-Held Mirror.
I wanted to post some images
showing the progress of these pieces...
~Snowman Trio~
The Tramp Art Snowmen come in three sizes.
Their hats are made from vintage thread spools, pressed board
and available antique elements such as feather tree springs,
buttons and assorted millinery items.
The top each base will be dusted with some
vintage mica "snow" and some German glass glitter.
The final touch will be to dress each in a scarf
to keep away the cold. The scarves will vary and
will be made from vintage Christmas Tree Tinsel/garland
or strips of antique fabrics.
~~~~~~~~~~

~The NEW Raven~

This Raven stands with it's head looking upward
and his wings spread. He stands approximately 7.5" tall,
12" long and has a wing span of 17".

The last images shows him holding
an unfinished German style Christmas Lantern.
I am also making an Easter Lantern.
Both lanterns will have inserts placed in the windows.

The lanterns and a NEW Raven will be going off
to an artist friend of mine since her favorite holidays
are Easter and Christmas.

I really like these little lanterns so I make make some more...
maybe at a slightly larger size so that I can
add some layers of Tramp Art to them. They would be
wonderful ornaments for a tree. I do plan on making a larger
Halloween Lantern to go with the large Raven.

~~~~~~~~~~
~The Four Drawer Chest/Thread Chest~
This is a work in progress as I am still going to
add Tramp Art layers to the top, sides and drawer fronts.
The drawers will have vintage knobs and
once pulled out the lids of the vintage cigar boxes
will have a pull tab made from silk ribbon
and attached to the inside of the cigar box lid with a
vintage Dresden Star
~~~~~~~~~~

~The Tall Clock/Pocket Watch Holder~

I am going to be finishing these with
my custom mixed stain. The inside of the bonnet
and the back will be painted. I may even
do a grain painted finish on this pieces one of these days.

I am currently searching for a source for
good working or non-working pocket watches to
include with each clock case ~BUT~
if you have an old pocket watch that you want to display
you can use this Tall Clock to hold that
cherished time piece.

~~~~~~~~~~
~The NEW Heart Hand-Held Mirror~
I have always loved the small courting mirror.
I plan on continuing to make a series of
small/courting mirrors and this is the newest piece
in that series. I have already made a
Single Heart, a Double Heart and a Love Birds Courting Mirror.
The photos show the front and back sides of
this Heart hand-Held Mirror
which can also be hung on the wall with a loop
of leather that will be tied through the hole
in the handle OR you can simply hang it on a nail
using the hole as the hanger.
Vintage pocket/purse mirrors are used in all
of my courting mirrors.
Hope you are enjoying your Spring and
thank you for taking some time out to read my blog.
It is Flag Day so I wanted to post a few images of
some Flag based pieces I have available...
Enjoy!
Enjoying a nice Spring evening after a day of chip-carving
A bit breezy outside but I am sitting here
listening to the birds chirping
and the wind blowing through the tree branches.
I spent the day working on new pieces.
Two Heart shaped Courting/Vanity Mirrors and two
sizes of my Tall Case Clock/Watch Holder.
The inspiration for the mirror came
from a friends post on Facebook of one of their
favorite antique pieces...a heart shaped
board that had some sort of seal attached to it.
I have no idea what the original piece
was used for BUT I immediately pictured
a hand held/hangable mirror!
The Art Tramp Tall Clock/Watch Holder
The last two photos are of the first
Tall Clock I made which is now in a private collection.
I have changed the structure slightly
in the two newest pieces so that the watch will remain
with the case when the bonnet is removed.
Now I am searching for inexpensive old pocket watches...
working or broken.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Many more pieces are in the works. Two sizes of
an 1800's style German Toy Automobile,
three Ravens (small, large and a NEW style),
three Snowmen (small, medium & large),
several NEW Sewing Boxes, a four drawer chest,
some single drawer boxes, Bible boxes,
some larger boxes using antique seed and
spool boxes as the base, a bank
and two game tables using antique table bases....

so keep checking back here or visit my
artists page at www.facebook.com/arttramp and
my website at www.thearttramp.com.

As always, thank you for dropping by
and feel free to sign up to follow my blog.

Spring is here...the snow is melting...the early morning sun is shining through the kitchen window...

and I am sipping my coffee and having some fresh fruit
for breakfast as I hear the snoring of my
husband and our dog coming from the bedroom...LOL

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I am working on several new pieces.
Printing out my patterns, tracing shapes onto wood
and then cutting everything out by hand.
My work table is covered but soon some exciting
new pieces will emerge!
I am also making a few of my Ravens and have designed
 a new Raven. Also working on a couple of German
Automobiles and a large and small Tall Clock. There will be
some wonderful new Heart-In-Hand pieces and even
a couple of full-size game tables using antique table bases
...one will use a Country Sheraton table base with
original black paint and the other is a simple Hepplewhite
tappered-leg base in the original apple green paint.
Since I had shared the work in progress photos
with you I thought you might like to see the finished
Moravian Star and Maggie pieces...
and finally, for those of you who celebrate this holiday
I wish you a very Happy Easter!
Here is the card I designed for my husband
hope it puts a smile on your face...
